Featuring Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 8 in E Minor, Op. 59, No. 2, which combines dramatic intensity with moments of lyric beauty and humor. The work’s expansive scale and emotional depth helped redefine the string quartet, pushing the genre beyond its Classical roots.

βPerforming are: Doori Na and Jane Chung (violin), Susan Rotholz (flute),
David Creswell (viola), and Eliot Bailen (cello).
ββIn a nod to America 250, the program also includes String Trio No. 1 by Joseph Antes (1740-1822), one of the earliest American-born chamber music composers and a contemporary of Franz Josef Haydn. He is also the maker of perhaps the earliest surviving bowed string instrument made in America, a violin from 1759 – now housed in the Moravian Historical Society in Nazareth, PA.
